Ballarat Open Space Strategy (2008)

The Ballarat Open Space Strategy (2008) provides the framework for planning, managing, and developing the city’s open space network. It covers parks, gardens, sport reserves, linear reserves, and conservation areas across the municipality.

Key Content

The strategy is structured in two volumes:

  • Volume 1: Strategic framework, analysis of existing open space, future needs
  • Volume 2: Detailed precinct-level assessments and recommendations

The strategy informs open space requirements in the ballarat-west-psp and the growth-areas-framework-plan, which designate significant active and passive open space within growth areas.

Current Status

Adopted (2008). Now 18 years old and predates significant development in western Ballarat. Referenced in the housing-strategy-2041 as a document that will complement the Housing Strategy. The Recreation Infrastructure Plan 2024–2039 (recreation-infrastructure-plan-2024-2039.txt) may partially update open space directions.
